Michael Herzovi — Chicago Illinois
My stories are unique. I can’t walk very well, and I can’t get up if I fall. Growing up, I had to stay close to home so I played board games on my back porch with neighborhood kids until they got old enough to play farther away. Then in college I discovered the three wheeled scooter. It was the first time I could come and go as I pleased, to depend on myself and live with the consequences. When I learned about disability culture, “Crip” became a badge of honor. My stories are unique. That’s why they’re universal.
