The Daughters of Muirne

The voice in the faerie ring told Muirne she would be the mother of a nation. Raiders kidnapped her instead. Sold as a "wife" to the viking Halfir, she is taken from her beloved Ériu to the frozen, alien Issland. Expected to produce strong warrior sons, Muirne gives birth to daughter after daughter, each one more mysterious than the last. Holding within her the old gods and language of the Gaels, Muirne struggles to build a new life in this strange land, with her ever-growing band of mercurial daughters and a "husband" she hopes one day to kill.
